A book to celebrate the 25° Anniversary and
the 6th edition of Cantine Due Palme Special Award
Un libro per celebrare il 25° anniversario di Cantine Due Palme
e la sesta edizione del Premio Speciale.
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Cantine Due Palme, Professor Pietro Caprioli, historian and expert in Salento wine history presented his last book: “Cantine Due Palme. Tra cronaca e storia. 1989-2014” [trn “Cantine Due Palme. Between story and history. 1989-2014”].
The highly-awaited event took place last 9th May in the exclusive Selvarossa Conference Room at the same time as the 6th edition of Cantine Due Palme Special Award
Again this year, eminent personalities were awarded: Riccardo Cotarella, President of Assoenologi [trn. Italian national winemaking association] and internationally renowned winemaker; Antonio Benarrivo, a former Italian footballer; John Pezzuto, Professor at the University of Hawaii, Founding Dean of the Daniel K. Inouye and discoverer of Resveratrolo; Attilio Scienza, Professor at Milano University and in charge of important national projects in the fields of agronomy, physiology and vine genetics; Marco Simonit, expert “grape preparer”; Marcello Maci, young Salento businessman; Sergio Pede, famous cardiologist and Xuefeng Yu, Professor at Pechino University and representative of Salento viticulture to China. The prize was also given to some growers and main importers of the winery.
« 2014 represents an important year for Cantine Due Palme and for all of its 1200 members – says Angelo Maci, President and Winemaker of the cooperative. Many awards have repaid the hard and professional work of a complex system of production and bottling, which constitutes a symbolic chain full of history, tradition and great quality. Our first 25 years are closely tied to Salento wine culture development and this is the time of important analysis, in order to assess the real growth since 1989».
A deep and careful consideration over the last 25 years came to light through an interview to Mr. Maci conducted by the journalist Monica Caradonna: from 1996, when the winery started to invest in Asian markets up to today’s international success in terms of turnover. Some of the key players in the winery history spoke in that debate: Antonella Maci, one of the President’s daughters, Marco Maci, the first President and Paola Dell’Atti, who has taken care of all members since the foundation of the cooperative.
The show was hosted by Federico Quaranta and Chiara Giallonardo, two of the youngest T.V. Italian faces of our day. Together with the illustrious figures of the company, the main speakers were also members, business partners and friends of the cooperative.
«An evening that allowed us to travel through difficult years and recall moments that led us to be what prizes and awards tell about our winery today» , proudly said Mr. Maci, «today that we are ready for new exciting challenges ».
Cantine Due Palme team has commemorated this historical event with a celebrative bottle.
